BNC outputs

Hi Josh,

I hope you're doing well.

I have a question regarding the Bpod State Machine 2.5. It only has two BNC outputs, and I was wondering if I need to purchase additional accessories to get more BNC outputs.

Also, could you advise on how to modify the code, specifically the 'BNCState' section, to output signals to the additional BNC channels?

Hello Oly,

'BNCState' is a legacy syntax to set the BNC channels. Its argument interprets bits of the integer you pass as the line levels of the two outputs - so 3 would set both high (11 in binary).

There is currently no way to expand the onboard array of BNC outputs. However, you can add TTL inputs and outputs using the Bpod Arduino Shield and a compatible 32-bit Arduino board, or the Bpod Teensy Shield and Teensy 3.X or 4.X. With these, you'd load the "DIO" firmware given here. Each module would then give you 6 digital inputs and 6 digital outputs. Usage notes are given in the code comments.

Another possibility is to use the LED channel on an unused behavior port, accessed via the LED +/- terminals of the port interface board. Setting {LED2, 1} sets the LED line of behavior port 2 high (3.3V).
