Sound Card

I have recently started using Bpod (I installed software in Feb and started using hardware in March 2019).
I want to connect it with sound card but I am not sure which sound card will be good to use.
I have seen some people posting issues about installing it.
Which sound card do you recommend for me to buy?

Hi Yurika,

The best card we've found for now is the HT Omega Fenix. It has a clean frequency response from 20-80kHz, high enough output voltage to trigger the state machine directly (ch3+4 send a 1ms sync pulse at sound onset), and 10+/-1.5ms latency using the latest PsychToolbox + WASAPI drivers. The 'develop' branch of the Bpod_Gen2 repository already supports this card.

FYI It's not documented yet, but the develop branch also has PsychToolboxAudio - a more cleanly written class to wrap PsychToolbox's PsychPortAudio (example protocol here). PsychToolboxSoundServer will still be supported, for compatability with old protocols.

Are there any compatible low profile PCIe cards (other than the ASUS XONAR DSX, which I can't find in stock anywhere)?

Hi Emily,

This is a perfect opportunity for me to plug the new HiFi module, which is a better option than a PC sound card for nearly all applications.

Unfortunately the industry has pivoted to the remaining use cases for a PC sound card - recording studios and gamers. In both cases, the standard is to have a full-sized PC tower, so there aren't many compact cards with high end specs.
