The lickometer contains a steel tube to deliver water. The tube connects directly to 1/16" ID silicone elastic tubing. Most labs connect the tube to a solenoid valve to dispense drops of water from an elevated reservoir, but it is also possible to use a pump.
The lickometer is not intended for freely moving behavior, as it cannot differentiate between a snout or a tongue. Research in freely moving assays typically makes use of the Bpod behavior port.
