Replacement suggestion for BOM #17 TLP2160(TPF)CT-ND
#1
Hi all,

Does anyone have a good recommendation for an alternative supplier or an alternative part for the BOM #17 TLP2160(TPF)CT-ND - the 2-channel digital isolator?
I am running into major supply problems here in Germany. I would appreciate any ideas! This is the only problematic part I am missing.

Cheers, Janie

Hi Janie,

I am also looking for an alternative for this part. I'll let you know if I find something, and please post here if you also find a replacement part

Thanks

You should be able to use this part:

https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/e...ND/2347198

Just make sure to change the two 220-ohm series resistors to 1k resistors:

OK great Josh! Thanks so much for your help!

We also found this part on RS Germany:
https://de.rs-online.com/web/p/optokoppler/8962509/
Toshiba Optokoppler, 25 mA AC IC Output, 2,5 kV eff SMD, SOIC 8-Pin RS Best.-Nr. 896-2509 Herst. Teile-Nr. TLP2160(F)

Our question was whether this is not too big for the PCB. I think we will go for your recommended option for now!
Cheers, Janie

Hi Janie,

The part you linked is a SOIC-8 package, so it should fit.

Dear Josh,

We have finally started assembling the pulse pal, and we have a small problem. We've used the optoisolator that you've recommended, and changed the 2 220-ohm series resistors to 1k (please see the picture linked here). But we are unsure what to do with the pads marked C12 (see red circle in picture). They are not described in the assembly instructions for the pulse pal version (see for example Fig. 4). Can you let us know what the final voltage of this part of the circuit should be? Do we need to add the 0.1 uf resistor as seems to be indicated next to the pad? Any advice here would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot, Janie
